More than 880,000 people have been affected by the floods in Myanmar, and there are more than 300 deaths and many more injures, according to UNOCHA Myanmar.

The list was collected ten days after the floods in Myanmar and an estimated 887,000 people, including displaced people, were affected by the floods in 65 townships in Bago, Kayah, Kayin, Magway, Mandalay, Mon, Nay Pyi Taw, Rakhine, Sagaing and eastern and southern Shan, according to UNOCHA Myanmar,.

The death toll is over 300 as of September 20. More than 100 people were injured. Among the most affected areas, homes, household appliances, water sources and power lines were reported to have been extensively damaged.

In addition, roads, bridges, communication networks, schools, public service buildings, religious buildings, crops and farms were also affected and there were cases of total destruction, UNOCHA Myanmar stated.

The OCHA and the Interim Humanitarian Coordinator are working hard to obtain additional funds in order to rapidly increase the current flood response activities as only 27 percent of the fund was received for the 2024 humanitarian needs and response plan needs. The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has approved the allocation of US$4 million in order to quickly start emergency relief operations.

Currently, the initial response activities are continuing to provide important support to the people affected by the flood in the affected townships. There is an urgent need for drinking water, food, medicines, household items, clothes, shelters and life-saving equipment for emergency preparedness. In order to effectively respond to the needs of flood victims in flood-affected areas, it is important for humanitarian organizations to receive funding and unrestricted access to flood-affected areas, UNOCHA Myanmar announced.
