In Taungoo, more than 40 individuals, including children and the elderly, experienced food poisoning at the Wet Phyu Gone flood shelter on the night of September 18. The shelter, home to 461 refugees, saw victims receiving medical attention from local charities and residents' associations.

According to Ko Kyaw Thura from the Save the Trees Rescue Association, the affected individuals consumed fried vermicelli and fried eggs for dinner. Efforts are underway to transport the remaining 400 residents to Taungoo Hospital for further care.

Fortunately, most victims have since recovered, with some discharged from the hospital by the morning of September 19. Following the incident, health officials visited the shelter to investigate the source of the contamination, which involved donated food items.

This event comes shortly after over 100 people suffered food poisoning in Tatkone Township, prompting health authorities to remind donors to provide freshly cooked meals and ensure food safety standards are met for disaster relief efforts.
