YGH successfully performs bone marrow transplants on two cancer patients
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdThe Ministry of Health announced that Yangon General Hospital (YGH) successfully carried out bone marrow transplants on two patients with blood and lymphatic cancer during December.
With guidance and support from the Ministry of Health, the procedures were performed at the internationally standardized seven-storey new building of Yangon General Hospital, specifically at the Hematology Department and the Bone Marrow Transplant Center. In December 2025, bone marrow transplants were successfully conducted on two cancer patients, who have since recovered well and have now been discharged from the hospital.
The two patients are a 54-year-old man from Kyeemyindaing Township, Yangon Region, and a 58-year-old woman from Lanmadaw Township. The bone marrow transplant procedures were carried out through the collective efforts of the hospital management team, professors and specialist physicians from the Hematology Department, subject specialists and consultants from related departments, senior nurses, nurses, and supporting staff.
At Yangon General Hospital, bone marrow transplants were performed on three patients in 2016, three in 2017, four in 2018, one in 2019, one in 2020, three in 2024, and a total of ten patients so far in 2025—bringing the overall total to 25 patients. To help reduce healthcare costs for the public, bone marrow transplant services will continue to be provided domestically.
