Phone Shops Burgled in Aye Thar Yar as Theft Cases Rise Across Taunggyi Township

Residents said at least two phone shops, including one located on the eastern side of the market, were targeted during the night. A nearby barbershop was also reportedly broken into.
One of the affected phone shops lost at least four mobile phones, and the owner has filed a complaint with the police.
“The same young men who sometimes came to ask about phones stole devices that had been left at the shop for repairs,” the shop owner said.
Locals said theft and burglary cases have been increasing across Taunggyi Township, including in Taunggyi, Aye Thar Yar, and Shwenyaung, with incidents involving stolen property, motorcycles, and shop break-ins.
On the night of May 10, a Honda Click 125 (2012 model) parked in front of a house in Myay Phyu Ward was reportedly stolen, with the owner sharing contact details online in an attempt to recover it.
Similarly, on May 4, a house in Taunggyi was broken into and a motorcycle was stolen, according to the owner, who appealed for information from the public.
In another case on May 2, a Honda Wave 100 motorcycle bearing registration number 48 Y/53962 was reportedly stolen from the Women and Children Hospital (WCH) in Taunggyi.
Sources also said thieves frequently enter the hospital compound late at night while people are asleep and steal belongings from patients’ caregivers.
