Deep Depression Weakens to Land Depression Over Phyu; Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Warnings Issued Across Myanmar

A deep depression that crossed Kyaikto has downgraded to a land depression as it tracks north-northwest near Phyu, triggering a brown-level alert, according to Myanmar's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

As of 6:30 am on September 29, the system was centered roughly 30 miles south-southeast of Phyu, packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Over the next 36 hours, it is forecast to move across Bago, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Magway, and lower Sagaing regions.

From September 29 to October 1, widespread thundershowers and heavy localized rainfall are expected across most regions and states, including Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, and Ayeyawady. Off the coast, squalls could bring wind gusts up to 30 mph and rough seas with waves between 9 and 11 feet.

DMH urges residents in the storm's path to remain vigilant against flash floods and landslides, while domestic flights and coastal maritime vessels are advised to take necessary safety precautions.
