Primary chemistry laboratory completed at Insein research compound
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdA primary chemistry laboratory has been completed at the research compound in Insein Township, and arrangements are underway to enable the testing and analysis of chemical substances, according to official sources.
On December 23, Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, accompanied by responsible officials, inspected the newly constructed Basic Chemistry Laboratory at the research compound in Insein Township. During the visit, officials provided briefings on the completion status of the laboratory building and the installation of equipment and machinery.
The Union Minister instructed relevant departments to ensure the laboratory becomes operational as soon as possible for chemical testing and analysis. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing the technical capacity of staff who will conduct laboratory testing, systematically drafting and implementing future operational plans, and strictly adhering to prescribed safety procedures to ensure the protection of laboratory personnel.
The Primary Chemistry Laboratory has been established with the aim of preventing harm and risks posed by chemicals and related substances to living organisms and natural resources. Its objectives include issuing lists of banned and restricted chemicals based on hazard levels, in line with international agreements ratified by Myanmar and domestic chemical regulations, supervising waste management activities in accordance with the Order on Disposal of Wastes from Chemical and Related Substances Industries, and ensuring systematic waste disposal to prevent environmental pollution.
The laboratory also oversees and guides chemical and related substance activities to prevent misuse of chemistry, while providing training and awareness programmes for entrepreneurs on occupational safety and preventive measures.
The Primary Chemistry Laboratory is capable of converting heavy metals and chemical substances into gases and measuring the type and quantity of compounds. It can also test microorganisms and systematically examine imported chemicals and related materials, thereby reducing risks to human life and minimizing negative impacts on the environment, climate, and ecosystem.
Through hazard-based classification of chemicals, supervision of waste management, and guidance on chemical-related activities, the laboratory aims to prevent adverse effects and reduce environmental pollution.
During the visit, the Union Minister instructed the Research Department to work towards increasing the production of new pharmaceutical products and expanding market access by adopting modern packaging design technologies. The minister also emphasized the need to boost production capacity to meet public demand for essential medicines, to conduct testing of MSME products, and to carry out required testing of industrial waste materials to ensure they do not pose risks to public health, according to reports.
The Union Minister provided guidance for the Research Department to work toward increasing the production of new pharmaceutical products and to penetrate the market by adopting modern design technologies in packaging systems, to increase production capacity to adequately meet the public demand for widely used medicines essential to public health, to also carry out testing of MSME products and to conduct necessary testing of industrial waste materials to ensure that they do not adversely affect public health, according to requirements, it’s reported.
