Power to Be Distributed on Rotational Basis Starting October 5

The Ministry of Electric Power and Energy has announced that electricity will be distributed on a rotational basis starting October 5.

The ministry said the monsoon has withdrawn and the rainy season has ended, marking the beginning of the dry season. In addition, temperatures have risen significantly across the country due to the effects of a severe El Niño weather phenomenon, resulting in increased electricity consumption and higher power demand.

During the current period, load management and electricity distribution will unavoidably have to be carried out at the minimum possible level in order to balance electricity consumption with available power generation capacity, according to the ministry.

Therefore, the ministry announced that a load management plan will be implemented from October 5, under which electricity will be distributed to consumers on a rotational basis.

It is also reported that plans are being made to regulate the amount of water stored in reservoirs at hydropower plants and continue generating electricity through the 2027 rainy season, as greater depletion of reservoir water is expected during this year's summer season.

In addition, efforts are underway to increase power generation capacity, including through new solar and hydropower projects to be completed before this year's summer season. Work is also being carried out to restore damaged power supply systems to normal condition.

The Ministry of Electric Power and Energy warned that when electricity demand is high due to elevated temperatures caused by the severe El Niño weather phenomenon, an imbalance between power generation and consumption could cause power generators within the electricity system to suddenly shut down, faults to occur on major transmission lines, and potentially lead to a nationwide power outage or system breakdown.
