Say Hello to Everyone Who Said Good Night on SNL

by · VULTURE

Druski’s episode of Saturday Night Live had one of the most inexplicably star-studded goodnights in the history of the show. No, that’s not entirely true. It is explicable. Let us explicate it.

James Talarico

James Talarico crashed the political cold open this week, and unlike Texas, he couldn’t turn it blue. The sketch followed the recent formula of Trump interrupting a scene and monologuing while the other players freeze. Then Talarico does it to Trump. “I’m James Talarico, the guy who’s been texting you every day asking for $5,” he said. “But I think, Mr. President, if we can work together, we can make life better for everyday Americans. It’s clear people want something new. They want something different. I’m talking, of course, about SNL’s cold opens. How many of these Trump freezers are they going to do?” Trump then indicated the show will keep doing them until the heat death of the universe, alas.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone did a walk-on for Druski’s monologue. Stone is starring in Druski’s first big movie, The Catch, directed by her husband Dave McCary. And despite what Druski seemed to glean from production, he is not the love interest. That’s Chris Pine.

Walton Goggins

Walton Goggins did a “What’s Up With That”-like cameo while the Strokes did their single “Going Shopping.” Blink and you’ll miss him, but stare too intently and the background might give you photosensitive seizure.

Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle

These dudes appeared in no sketches. They just seemed to be there to anoint Druski as a new king of comedy.

Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler

Also not in any sketches. Probably not there to do any kingmaking for the future of comedy. But they are in Miami Vice ‘85 together, so maybe Druski is too?
