TXT's Soobin reveals he was scammed in The Philippines, taxi driver suspended after viral backlash

TXT’s Soobin had an unexpected and frustrating start to his vacation in the Philippines—one that quickly turned into a viral controversy.

A recent video titled “Soobin’s Super Fun Yet Super Exhausting Vacation” uploaded on TOMORROW X TOGETHER OFFICIAL captures the moment the idol was overcharged by a taxi driver upon arriving in Cebu.

Traveling with a friend, Soobin landed at Cebu airport and planned to take a taxi to his accommodation. Having already checked that the fare should be around 300 pesos, he jokingly said, “If it’s over 300, let’s at least get mad once,” before heading to the taxi stand.

However, things quickly escalated. One driver initially quoted 500 pesos, and despite unsuccessful attempts to negotiate, Soobin got in. The situation worsened when the driver began making excuses about high gas prices before suddenly demanding 1,000 pesos—more than triple the expected fare.

Clearly frustrated, Soobin reacted, “Did you hear that? I’m going to report this. Please record him saying 1,000 pesos. Even 500 was already expensive, and now he’s asking for 1,000.”

Though exhausted, Soobin stood his ground. “At least we’re getting somewhere. We’re so tired. But before getting out, he told us to pay 1,000, and I firmly said we’d pay 500 and left,” he said, still in disbelief.

The clip quickly gained traction online, sparking widespread backlash not only among fans but also within the Philippines. On April 3 (local time), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced a 30-day preventive suspension for the taxi driver involved.

Filipino fans flooded social media with reactions, expressing both apology and frustration. Comments included, “As a Filipino, I feel ashamed,” “I’m sorry this happened,” “He should be punished properly,” and “This is really upsetting.”
