Dua Lipa reportedly files lawsuit against Samsung Electronics over alleged unauthorized photo use

Global pop star Dua Lipa has reportedly filed a massive $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics over the alleged unauthorized use of her image.

According to a complaint submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on May 8 local time, Dua Lipa’s legal team claims Samsung used the singer’s photo on TV product packaging without permission, violating both copyright and publicity rights.

The image in question was reportedly taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, with Dua Lipa said to hold exclusive ownership of the photograph’s copyright.

Her attorneys argued that Samsung’s use of the image created the misleading impression that the singer officially endorsed the company’s products. The complaint even included social media posts from consumers allegedly stating that they “bought the TV because of Dua Lipa.”

Dua Lipa’s side further claimed that they had requested Samsung stop using the image beginning in June 2025, but alleged that the company ignored those requests.

The singer’s legal team also emphasized that Dua Lipa has been highly selective with brand partnerships, previously collaborating only with premium global brands such as Puma and Versace. They argued that the alleged unauthorized use significantly damaged her brand value and public image.

As part of the lawsuit, Dua Lipa is reportedly seeking $15 million in damages along with an injunction to prevent Samsung from continuing to use the image.
