SHINee’s Key has acknowledged his acquaintance with an individual known as the so-called “injection aunt,” identified as Lee, while stating that he believed Lee to be a licensed doctor.

On December 17th KST, SM Entertainment released an official statement regarding allegations of illegal medical practices involving Lee, who has been referred to as the “injection aunt,” and reports of Key’s personal connection to him.

The agency first issued an apology, saying, “Due to the need to communicate with various parties related to overseas tour schedules and activities, we sincerely apologize for the delay in issuing a prompt statement.”

Regarding Lee, SM explained, “Through a recommendation from an acquaintance, Key first met Lee at a hospital located in Gangnam-gu, where Lee was introduced as a doctor. Since then, Key continued receiving treatment at that hospital, and on a few occasions when visiting the hospital was difficult, he received treatment at home.”

The agency added, “Believing Lee to be a doctor and given that there was no indication otherwise, Key did not think that receiving treatment at home would pose any issue.”

However, amid recent controversy surrounding Lee’s medical license, SM stated, “Key first became aware that Lee was not a licensed physician through the recent allegations, and he is currently experiencing significant confusion and deeply reflecting on his own lack of awareness.”

SM concluded, “Recognizing the seriousness of this matter, Key has decided to step down from his currently scheduled activities and programs he is appearing in.” The agency again apologized for causing concern to the public.
