Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun Team Up for Medical Romance ‘Doctor on the Edge,’ Premiering June 1

Actors Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun are set to headline a new medical romance drama together.

On April 28, the production team of ENA’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama 'Doctor on the Edge' (written by Kim Ji Soo, directed by Lee Myung Woo) unveiled its casting lineup, including Lee Jae Wook, Shin Ye Eun, Hong Min Gi, Lee Soo Kyung, and Kim Yoon Woo.

'Doctor on the Edge' is based on the webtoon of the same title. The story follows a public health doctor assigned to the remote island of Pyeondongdo and a secretive nurse, as they save lives and learn about love.

The cast recently held a script reading. Lee Jae Wook takes on the role of Do Ji Ui, a public health doctor dispatched to Pyeondongdo. Despite having a trauma related to the sea and avoiding islands, he undergoes a personal transformation.

His performance showcased a nuanced emotional range, moving between various facets of the character. He convincingly portrayed the guarded, isolated inner world of his character, as well as his growth and change after meeting Yuk Ha Ri.

Shin Ye Eun plays Yuk Ha Ri, a nurse formerly affiliated with a university hospital. Ha Ri is someone who cannot ignore those in need and returns to Pyeondongdo carrying a secret unknown to others.

She brings Ha Ri’s complex emotions to life with depth, delivering an immersive performance as the character becomes entangled with the somewhat fragile Ji Ui and faces life’s dilemmas.

Hong Min Gi appears as elite public health doctor Hyun Chi Yeon, while Lee Soo Kyung plays native Pyeondongdo nurse Um Jung Sun. Kim Yoon Woo takes on the role of Yong Ju Cheon, a public health doctor of Korean medicine.

The production team shared, “'Doctor on the Edge' tells the story of individuals who meet on an isolated island, healing each other’s wounds and growing into true medical professionals and individuals.”

They added, “With the warm friendship and romance of young actors, the drama will deliver a cheerful and heartwarming healing experience,” asking for viewers’ interest and support.

'Doctor on the Edge' is set to premiere on June 1 at 10 PM on ENA. It will also be available on KT Genie TV and Disney+.
