This radar image shows heavy rain approaching Honolulu around mid-afternoon today.
UPDATE: 5:10 p.m.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue into tonight, mainly over western islands, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
The light southeast winds that have delivered the wet weather over the past few days will give way to increasing tradewinds and drier weather late Saturday through into Monday, forecasters said.
They said a new area of “increased moisture” will return to Hawaii Monday and Tuesday, with mainly windward showers.
The forecast for Honolulu next week calls for mostly sunny tradewind weather with highs in the low 80s, overnight lows in the 70s, and the chance or rain falling to 20% by Monday.
Christmas Day weather is expected to be mostly sunny with lighter winds, according to the NWS.

The flood advisory for Oahu has been canceled but the chance of rainy weather persists throughout the weekend, forecasters said.
PREVIOUS COVERAGE:
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Oahu this afternoon as the weather system that has drenched the western islands this week continues.
“At 11:27 a.m., radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain over central Oahu. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour,” forecasters said.
The advisory is in effect until 2:30 p.m. today, and forecasters warned that the rains may cause minor flooding on roads, in poor drainage areas, and in streams.
The weather service said Hawaii will continue to see a chance for showers statewide through the weekend.
“Southerly winds through the weekend will give way to returning tradewinds Monday, which will carry showers into the islands early next week,” forecasters said.
NWS briefly issued a tornado warning for Niihau around 7 a.m. today as a strong thunderstorm cell threatened the islands. No tornadoes were reported and the warning was lifted after several minutes.
