Man, 55, dies after falling ill in water during Makaha snorkeling tour

A 55-year-old man has died after being pulled from the ocean in Makaha on Sunday morning, according to Honolulu police.

Police said it happened shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday when the man was on a snorkeling boat tour with his family in Makaha.

“While in the water, victim began to feel ill and appeared pale,” said police in a public information bulletin. “Victim was pulled from the water and rushed to shore after becoming unconscious.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and performed advanced life support on the man. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity was not immediately released.

No foul play is suspected, police said, and the case has been classified as an unattended death.
