Kanalelo Breaks Silence On African Stars Contract Concerns

Ronnie Kanalelo has responded to concerns raised by his former club African Stars after being unveiled as the new head coach of Marumo Gallants on Monday.

The Namibian coach was officially announced by the Betway Premiership outfit as they continue their preparations for the new campaign, with Kanalelo now set to begin his latest coaching chapter in South Africa.

However, his appointment has reportedly raised questions in Namibia, with New Era reporting that African Stars are seeking advice on how to handle the situation.

According to the newspaper, Kanalelo still had an existing agreement with Stars before his move to Gallants, with the Namibian club having expected him to remain in charge for their upcoming CAF Champions League clash against Orlando Pirates.

Stars chairman Salomo Hei was quoted as suggesting that there could be a case for breach of contract.

Kanalelo has now responded directly to the report, insisting that there are contractual provisions which allowed him to pursue an international coaching opportunity.

Responding to New Era’s post on Facebook, Kanalelo challenged Hei to address his concerns with him directly.

“I believe Solomo should come forward and tell me what issues he has with me. It seems we are at odds again. If you have the courage, please approach me and clear the air. I'm truly tired of your inflated ego,” Kanalelo wrote.

The coach also addressed reports that he had already been present at Gallants’ training on Monday morning, while African Stars were still under the impression that he would lead them against Pirates.

“Regarding your question about my presence at Gallants' training yesterday morning, I was indeed there. However, whether I was there to coach or to watch training remains the real question,” he said.

“I officially started my new coaching job with Marumo Gallants this morning.”

Kanalelo further disputed the suggestion that his move to Gallants amounted to a breach of his agreement with African Stars.

According to the coach, his contract with the Namibian club contains a provision relating to international coaching opportunities.

“Lastly, my contract clearly states that African Stars will not obstruct me when an international coaching opportunity arises,” Kanalelo said.

“Solomo doesn't know that because contractual matters are now handled by Patrick. He must just wish me luck and move on.”
