Vivi wants to offer Starlink internet on Latvia's trains

· Latvian Public Media

During the tests, the mobile network on all railway routes in Latvia is being mapped using Peplink multimode routers, which combine 4G/5G frequencies from different mobile operators, and Starlink satellite equipment, while the interconnectivity of the equipment is also being tested to ensure data network coverage.

Effectiveness of combining 4G/5G and satellite technologies for use on trains is also tested. Vivi thinks that this approach can provide uninterrupted internet access even in remote, sparsely populated areas where terrestrial signal availability is limited.

The data from the tests will be used to work with mobile operators and other stakeholders to identify the most appropriate solutions to improve mobile internet coverage and availability.

Vivi said  out that Starlink satellite solutions have been rapidly gaining popularity among rail operators worldwide in recent years.
