The incident triggered outrage among healthcare workers, with a doctors’ association staging a brief work stoppage in protest.

Wardha District health officer Swapnil Bele said the police had informed him that the accused was involved in a case in which a woman was attacked with a blade. However, the reason behind his attack on the doctor remained unclear.

The police arrested the accused and registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Maharashtra’s law against violence towards healthcare workers.

The incident renewed concerns over the safety of doctors and medical staff while on duty. Healthcare workers have called attention to the risks faced by medical professionals, including those working at primary health centres.
