Dr B R Ambedkar University Delhi has suspended 10 students for alleged indiscipline, damage to university property, and a scuffle with security personnel and administrative officials during a protest at its Kashmere Gate campus.
The university administration announced the decision on Wednesday, after reviewing a preliminary report from the Proctorial Board, CCTV footage, and other visual evidence related to the incident on the evening of October 13.
STUDENTS BARRED FROM CAMPUSES DURING SUSPENSION
In a statement, the university said the suspended students have been barred from entering its campuses during the suspension period. The matter has also been referred to the Proctorial Board or Disciplinary Committee for a detailed inquiry.
According to the administration, a group of students was holding a sit-in protest at an unauthorised location on the campus without prior permission.
The university alleged that around 7 pm on Tuesday, the protesters damaged university property and engaged in physical altercations with male and female security personnel deployed on duty.
UNIVERSITY ALLEGES MISBEHAVIOUR WITH OFFICIALS
The administration further alleged that officials who attempted to initiate dialogue with the protesters were subjected to abusive behaviour. It subsequently informed the police, citing concerns over campus safety and security.
The university maintained that all legitimate and permissible demands raised by the protesting students had already been addressed and resolved.
The university said acts of violence, vandalism, misbehaviour with staff and disruption of the academic environment were unacceptable. It reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair inquiry in accordance with university rules and statutes.
