Monsoon rain, storms to lash these parts of India today. Latest forecast here

A cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is helping keep rainfall active across the region. Meanwhile, another weather surprise might be brewing.

Rainfall is likely to remain active across several parts of eastern and northeastern India on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy showers in a number of states.

According to the IMD’s latest weather bulletin, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, as well as West Bengal and Sikkim.

The weather system driving the rain is linked to a cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar.

The monsoon trough also continues to run across northern and central parts of the country before extending towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

EAST AND NORTHEAST INDIA BRACE FOR RAIN

West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the northeastern states are likely to see thunderstorms and lightning along with rain on September 8.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim.

Similar thunderstorms with lightning are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.

Strong surface winds are also likely at isolated places throughout Andhra Pradesh.

The rain is not expected to be limited to these areas.

The IMD’s latest forecast shows widespread or fairly widespread rainfall continuing over several eastern and northeastern regions through the coming days, with Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and the northeastern states remaining among the areas seeing repeated spells.

WILL IT RAIN ON WEDNESDAY?

The wet spell is expected to persist in parts of eastern and northeastern India beyond September 8.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over several of these regions on September 9 as well, while Odisha could see heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on September 10.

Further ahead, the weather system is expected to remain influential over parts of central and eastern India.

The IMD has also indicated that a fresh low-pressure area could form over parts of Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha around September 11.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Haryana are expected to see only isolated rainfall on September 8, according to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, with no widespread rain indicated for the region.
