Ahmedabad doctor caught charging Rs 35,000 for illegal sex determination tests

A case has been registered against a gynaecologist in Ahmedabad for conducting illegal sex determination tests for Rs 35,000. He was caught after officials sent a decoy patient to record the process.

A private hospital doctor in Ahmedabad was caught conducting illegal sex determination tests for Rs 35,000. A case has been registered against the doctor, and the medical equipment has been sealed, officials said on Monday.

The gynaecologist had been offering sex determination services at his clinic in Naroda, which is prohibited under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.

Action against the doctor was initiated after the district health officer and a team of doctors inspected the hospital following a complaint. A decoy patient recorded the entire process on his mobile phone, which was subsequently submitted to the health department and district panchayat authorities, according to Ahmedabad's district health officer, Shailesh Parmar.

"It has been confirmed that sex determination tests were conducted for Rs 35,000," Parmar said, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the duration of these tests and any additional individuals involved.

The equipment has been sealed, and action has been initiated against the doctor under the PCPNDT Act.

In the last 20 years, the Ahmedabad District Panchayat has sealed over 15 machines for allegedly conducting sex determination tests, leading to actions against the doctors involved. If found guilty in court, the licenses of these doctors will be canceled by the Medical Counci
