  • Regular physical classes resumed on November 25
  • Schools in Delhi-NCR continue online due to severe AQI

Delhi University (DU) has dismissed claims about extending online classes in light of the ongoing air quality crisis. The university clarified on Sunday that no such decision has been taken, labelling the widely circulated notice as fake.

A letter falsely attributed to DU claimed that online classes for undergraduate and postgraduate students would extend until November 28 due to Delhi’s alarming Air Quality Index (AQI). The university took to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, posting the fake notice with a bold watermark reading “FAKE.”

The fake notice had stated, “The Competent Authority has decided to extend the online mode of classes till Thursday, the 28th of November, 2024. The schedule of Examinations and Interviews shall remain unchanged.”

DU reiterated that this information is incorrect and urged students to rely only on official sources for updates.

PHYSICAL CLASSES RESUME

Delhi University confirmed that regular physical classes resumed on November 25 after a brief period of online sessions.

The university had previously conducted online classes until November 23 as a precautionary measure, citing hazardous AQI levels in Delhi-NCR.

The official notice stated: “The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi and NCR has deteriorated to an alarmingly high index. In the larger interest of students... it has been decided that the classes shall be conducted in online mode till Saturday, November 23, 2024."

"Regular classes in physical mode are to resume from Monday, November 25, 2024. The schedule of examinations and interviews shall remain unchanged," it added.

A RECENT TREND IN FAKE NOTICES

This is not the first instance of fake notices troubling the university. Earlier, a similar false announcement claimed winter holidays were to begin from November 19 to 27, which DU swiftly debunked.

While DU has resumed physical classes, schools across Delhi-NCR, including Faridabad, Gurugram, and Noida, continue classes in hybrid mode due to severe air pollution.
