A key weather system continues to influence India's monsoon, with the IMD warning of changing conditions across several states. Here's where the weather is expected to take a turn next.

- Heavy rain to continue over eastern and central India on July 17
- Low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal driving monsoon activity
- Heavy rainfall expected in Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and other states
After days of widespread monsoon activity across eastern and central India, heavy rain is set to continue over several states on Friday, July 17, even as northwestern India is likely to witness only isolated showers, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The latest forecast indicates that the monsoon will remain most active over the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, driven by a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The weather system is expected to move northwest over North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next two days, helping sustain widespread rainfall across many regions.
HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE COUNTRY
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya on July 17.
Heavy rainfall is also likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected across parts of eastern, central and northeastern India.
Rainfall is expected to remain widespread over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, while much of the Northeast is likely to continue receiving widespread monsoon showers.
HUMIDITY TO PERSIST IN THE WEST
For northwest India, including Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, the IMD has forecast isolated to scattered rainfall on July 17.
While rainfall activity is expected to remain limited for now, hot and humid weather is likely to persist over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The weather is expected to become more active over northwest India from July 20 onward, when rainfall is forecast to increase over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and nearby hill states.
MONSOON REMAINS UNEVEN
The current weather pattern reflects the uneven nature of this year's monsoon.
While eastern India and the Northeast continue to receive abundant rainfall, several western and northwestern regions are still seeing only scattered showers.
According to the IMD, widespread rainfall is also expected to continue over Konkan and Goa, while Kerala and coastal Karnataka are likely to see an increase in rainfall activity from July 17 onward as the southwest monsoon remains active over the western coast.
