ABVP protests at JNU over sexual harassment allegations against professor

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) unit staged a protest on Tuesday over sexual harassment allegations against a professor and burnt effigies representing the accused faculty member and the university’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

At least 10 students have accused the professor of making inappropriate sexual advances at gatherings held at his on-campus residence and passing lewd remarks during classes.

The complaints were submitted to the ICC around a month ago.

The ABVP alleged that action was being delayed due to political influence and questioned whether the professor was being protected. It criticised the committee’s handling of the complaints and demanded a swift inquiry and action.

The ICC is investigating the allegations. The JNU administration and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office have not yet issued a statement. The claims could not be independently verified.
