JEE Advanced 2026: These questions saw the highest wrong-answer rates among students

The JEE Advanced 2026 official report reveals which questions saw the highest wrong-response rates across Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Physics Paper 2, Question 14, recorded a 74.84% wrong-response rate, while several Mathematics and Chemistry questions also saw errors from more than 60% of candidates.

In Short

  • Physics Paper 2, Question 14, saw 74.84% wrong responses, the highest rate in the report
  • Mathematics Paper 2 had four questions where more than 64% of candidates gave wrong responses
  • In Mathematics Paper 2, 56.96% skipped Question 5 and 56.35% did not attempt Question 7

The toughest part of JEE Advanced 2026 may not have been the questions candidates left unanswered. In several questions, a majority of students who appeared gave the wrong response, according to the exam's official Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) report.

The report's question-wise statistics break down how candidates performed across Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in both papers. They record the number of candidates who did not attempt a question, secured full or partial marks, or submitted a wrong response.

The figures offer a closer look at where candidates struggled, beyond the overall marks and ranks.

Here are the JEE Advanced 2026 questions with the highest wrong-response rates:

SubjectPaperQuestion numberCandidates who gave a wrong response
PhysicsPaper 21474.84%
PhysicsPaper 1969.01%
PhysicsPaper 21367.79%
ChemistryPaper 11067.06%
MathematicsPaper 21167.24%
ChemistryPaper 21366.51%
MathematicsPaper 21466.49%
MathematicsPaper 21866.01%
MathematicsPaper 21364.76%
ChemistryPaper 21564.53%
PhysicsPaper 11266.64%

PHYSICS HAD THE HIGHEST WRONG-ANSWER RATE

Physics Paper 2, Question 14, recorded the highest wrong-response rate among the questions listed in the report. A total of 74.84% of candidates gave the wrong response. Only 10.59% did not attempt it.

Physics Paper 2, Question 13, also saw a high wrong-response rate of 67.79%. In Physics Paper 1, Question 9, 69.01% of candidates gave a wrong response, while 66.64% did so for Question 12.

MATHEMATICS PAPER 2 STUMPED CANDIDATES

Mathematics Paper 2 had several questions where wrong responses crossed the 60% mark. Question 11 recorded a wrong-response rate of 67.24%, followed by Question 14 at 66.49%, Question 18 at 66.01% and Question 13 at 64.76%.

The numbers also show a different challenge: questions candidates chose not to attempt. In Mathematics Paper 2, 56.96% skipped Question 5, while 56.35% did not attempt Question 7. These figures do not establish why students left the questions unanswered, but they show where the paper saw substantial non-attempt rates.

CHEMISTRY ALSO HAD QUESTIONS WITH HIGH ERROR RATES

In Chemistry Paper 2, Question 13 recorded a wrong-response rate of 66.51%, while Question 15 saw 64.53%. Chemistry Paper 1, Question 10, had a 67.06% wrong-response rate.

These percentages are not, by themselves, a complete measure of question difficulty. They show how candidates responded, rather than explaining whether a question was conceptually difficult, time-consuming or prone to mistakes.

For students preparing for future attempts, the data offers a useful starting point: revisit questions with high error rates, examine the concepts and methods involved, and distinguish gaps in understanding from errors made under exam pressure.
