Patna University (PU) and Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) have been sanctioned Rs 100 crore each under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA). The funds aim to transform these institutions into multidisciplinary education and research universities (MERUs).

The union education ministry approved this significant funding to enhance infrastructure, improve research, and boost the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) scores of these universities.

The Bihar Government had previously submitted proposals for this funding after PU's application.

BENEFITS FOR PATNA UNIVERSITY AND LNMU

PU had been waiting for this approval for a long time. The funds will enable the university to develop much-needed facilities, strengthening its position among higher education institutions across India.

The approval also marks a big win for PU, which has received one of the largest allocations compared to other states.

For LNMU, the funding represents an opportunity to significantly enhance its multidisciplinary approach to education and research.

The funds will help develop better infrastructure and increase research output, putting the university on the map as a top-tier institution.

GOVERNMENT’S FOCUS ON EDUCATION

Bihar Finance Minister Samrat Chowdhary, highlighting the development, called it a "big gift from the Central Government." The approval aligns with the broader goals of PM-USHA to improve the quality of higher education in India, focusing on building MERUs across the country.

Both universities are expected to use this funding to meet ambitious goals in research, rankings, and infrastructure. This development underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education in Bihar and making these universities competitive on a national level.
