Fed up with unannounced rain, UP man files complaint against Lord Indra

Amid heavy, "unannounced" downpour in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, a man has filed an online complaint against Lord Indra, accusing the Hindu god of rain of disrupting normal life.

On September 26, Suraj Tiwari submitted his complaint to the government's Jansunwai Samadhan Portal, where citizens can directly address their problems to the authorities.

"Sometimes heavy and sometimes slow rainfall completely disrupts normal life. Indradev is continuously causing rain unannounced, without any prior information, putting the general public to unnecessary trouble," Tiwari said in his complaint.

Roads, streets and low-lying areas were waterlogged, he said, while farmers were facing fresh concerns over their crops. People were finding it difficult to leave their homes, and routine activities had been disrupted.

But the most striking part of the complaint came at the end.

The complaint's concluding request was addressed to the district magistrate.

"I do not know Indradev's mobile number. Therefore, I request the district magistrate to take this matter seriously and, through his divine means of communication, issue necessary directions to Indradev so that the rain can be controlled immediately and the people of the district can get relief," Tiwari said.

The complaint is being widely shared on social media, with people offering different reactions and some viewing it as a satirical take on the system.

The rainfall has left a trail of casualties and extensive damage in Hardoi and several other parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Between September 25 and 27, seven people died, and seven others were injured in Hardoi in incidents linked to excessive rainfall, snakebites and other rain-related events.

Thirty cattle also died, while 330 houses were reported damaged.

Several areas were inundated by the continuous rainfall, prompting rescue teams to evacuate residents from waterlogged localities and shift them to relief camps. Arrangements for food, drinking water, rations and accommodation have been made for affected families.

The three-day spell of continuous rain has affected large parts of Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, at least 56 deaths have been reported across the state during this period, underlining the severity of the prolonged rainfall.
