A techie from Andhra Pradesh drowned in a water-filled stone quarry near Bengaluru while trekking and swimming with his friends, police said on Monday. The body of the victim, identified as Vinay, was found after two days.

The incident occurred on October 2 when Vinay, a native of Vijayawada, and his eight friends visited the quarry near Jigani after gathering information about hidden trekking spots around Bengaluru, the victim's family said.

After hiking around the area, the group entered the quarry to swim around 4 pm. While swimming with his friends, Vinay suddenly drowned. Despite efforts by Vinay's friends to rescue him, he could not be saved, his brother Chaitanya said.

Even though Vinay was reportedly a sportsperson and knew how to swim, it remains unclear how he drowned.

Vinay was working from home for Gartner, a US-based technology research and advisory company.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel and SDRF teams searched for Vinay's body using a boat and an underwater camera. However, the body could not be located on the first day.

On the following day (Sunday), Eshwar Malpe, a swimming expert, entered the quarry and recovered Vinay's body from a depth of around 80 feet.

Vinay's father, Prakash, expressed disappointment over the delay in recovering his son's body. He said had a swimming expert been called on the first day, his son's body could have been found earlier.
