Rape threat, private pictures: Nurse arrested for extorting Rs 2 crore from doctor

A 65-year-old private hospital doctor in Rajasthan has alleged that a nurse who had been working at his hospital for a decade extorted almost Rs 2 crore from him over several years by threatening to implicate him in a false rape case, leak his private photographs and keep him under what he described as "digital arrest".

A nurse has been arrested in Rajasthan's Barmer for allegedly blackmailing a 65-year-old private hospital doctor and extorting nearly Rs 2 crore over several years by threatening to leak his private photographs, implicate him in a false rape case and kill him, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Kamla alias Kamlesh, was arrested after the doctor lodged a complaint accusing her of sustained blackmail and intimidation.

According to the complaint, Kamlesh had been working as a nurse at the doctor's private hospital since December 2016, mostly on night shifts.

The doctor claimed that she gradually gained access to his personal room on the pretext of making tea and secretly clicked his private photographs.

He claimed that the photographs later became the basis of an extortion racket, with the nurse allegedly threatening to circulate them on social media, falsely accuse him of rape and even kill him if he refused to pay.

The doctor told police that he continued paying money out of fear of losing his reputation and damaging the hospital's image. He claimed that he had paid her close to Rs 2 crore, including around Rs 35 lakh transferred directly from the hospital's bank account.

The 65-year-old doctor also claimed that the accused forced him to sign blank cheques and stamp papers, which she kept in a bank locker.

Furthermore, the doctor told police that the nurse had kept him under "digital arrest". According to his complaint, she gave him a separate mobile phone and SIM card and forced him to keep the device switched on 24 hours a day so she could monitor his movements.

He also alleged that she obtained the passwords to the hospital's CCTV cameras and kept a constant watch on his activities through the surveillance system.

According to the doctor's complaint, the accused made nearly 1,000 phone calls to him while he was in Ahmedabad for work. When he did not answer, she showed his private photographs to hospital staff.

The doctor also told the police that on the night of April 3-4, 2025, she slept outside his residence and insisted on being allowed inside, an incident he said was captured on CCTV cameras.

According to the complaint, Kamlesh, who was paid a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 as a nurse, allegedly continued to extort lakhs of rupees every month from the doctor despite receiving her regular wages.

After her arrest, however, Kamlesh denied all the allegations. "The allegations against me are completely false. The doctor is trying to save himself," she said.

Barmer Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nitesh Arya said the woman was arrested based on the doctor's complaint and Rs 17,000 was recovered from her possession.

"The doctor has alleged that a nurse working at his hospital blackmailed him using his private photographs and extorted nearly Rs 2 crore. He has also alleged that she threatened to implicate him in false cases and make the photographs public. After the complaint, the accused was arrested and further investigation is underway," Arya said.

The officer added that investigators are examining the nature of the relationship between the two and the circumstances under which the blackmail and extortion took place. Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
