Class 12 pass, but treated patients: 23-year-old fake doctor arrested in Hyderabad

Adnan ran a clinic and his family posed as traditional healers, treated patients for various ailments despite lacking recognised medical qualifications.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Hyderabad for impersonating a qualified doctor and running a healthcare centre without the required medical qualifications or licence, police said.

The accused, Mohd Adnan, was arrested during a police raid at his Hikma Sehath Care Centre in the Golconda area on September 22.

According to police, Adnan had only completed his higher secondary education but was treating patients despite having no recognised medical qualification. His mother, Saba Khan alias Mohammadi Begum and brother, Mohd Faizan, who have also been named as accused, are currently absconding.

Police alleged that the family presented themselves as ancestral healers (Hakeems) and treated patients for various ailments, including sexual health problems, breathing difficulties, chest pain, severe body pain, kidney and urinary problems and repeated vomiting.

During the raid, police seized a large quantity of unlabelled medicines and powders, including several bottles and packets marked with codes using a marker pen. Prescription books bearing the name of Hikma Health Care were also seized, along with five books relating to a Facebook page titled 'Dr Adnan Official'.

According to police, Adnan had been working at the centre since 2023 after getting acquainted with a BUMS-qualified Unani doctor. Police said an arrangement had been made under which the qualified doctor would visit the clinic occasionally, while Adnan and his family allegedly continued treating patients.

Police further alleged that the accused promoted the centre and its activities through Facebook, Instagram and promotional content published through SACH News.

A case has been registered for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, acts endangering the life or personal safety of others, along with common intention under the respective sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are investigating the clinic’s activities and the role of the absconding accused.
