KINS faculty shines at East Zone NEOCON 2026 and Odisha NEOCON 2026 Scientific programme

Bhubaneswar: In representing Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), Prof. Purnima Sahoo, Department of Child Health Nursing has excelled in the field of research & academics at the 7th East Zone NEOCON 2026 and 13th Odisha NEOCON 2026 held at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The conference marked the 13th Annual Conference of the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Odisha State Branch, and was organized in collaboration with UNICEF, National Health Mission (NHM), Odisha, and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha.

The scientific programme brought together neonatologists, paediatricians, nurses, researchers, academicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliberate on contemporary advances, evidence-based practices, and emerging developments in neonatal care.

During the conference’s Scientific Paper Presentation Session, an expert panel reviewed 20 research contributions. Among these, the presentation by Prof. Purnima Sahoo was selected for the Gold Medal Paper in Contention in the Oral Presentation category and won the cash prize. This research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS, and Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda, Neonatologist, KIMS.

The presented research, focusing on Early Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) among neonates weighing less than 1800 grams admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Her presentation was critically evaluated by the expert evaluators and received appreciation for its scientific relevance, methodological approach, clinical significance, and contribution to the field of neonatal care.

Following the expert evaluation, the paper was recognized as the Runner-up in the Gold Medal Paper in Contention category.
