But there are certain foods which when ingested could be infected with bacteria or parasites which might even cause serious danger to both the mother as well as the baby.

The following are a list of certain foods which are not recommended to be consumed during pregnancy according to the health experts.

Foods to avoid during pregnancy:

  • Raw or undercooked meat, may harbor parasites and harmful bacteria.
  • Raw fish and shellfish, might prove the food as infected.
  • Fishes that are high on mercury, for example-shark, swordfish, king mackerel.
  • Unpasteurized milk and soft cheeses
  • Raw eggs in certain homemade sauces and desserts.
  • Processed meat such as sausages, cold cuts-unless heated to boiling or steaming.
  • Raw fruits and vegetables that are not cleaned properly, they might carry germs.
  • Alcohol-even small amount is not advisable during pregnancy.

Make sure your meal consists of freshly cooked food, consume well washed fruits and vegetables, take in sufficient quantities of water and also seek advice from your doctor regarding supplements and diet. A simple change in diet can make your baby healthy through and through.
