Sambalpur: Authorities have closed three sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam following a decline in water inflow from the upper catchment areas. Earlier, floodwater was being discharged through five gates, but only two gates are now understood to remain open.

The current water level in the reservoir stands at 629 feet. The decision to close the three gates was taken as the inflow of water into the reservoir decreased.
