New Delhi: A consumer commission in Haryana has awarded Rs 3 lakh in compensation to a woman who suffered persistent pain and bleeding for several months after undergoing a Caesarean section (C-section), holding the treating gynaecologist and the hospital responsible for medical negligence. T
he ruling followed the woman’s complaint that her post-operative symptoms were not properly investigated, prolonging her suffering.
According to reports, the woman continued to experience pain and bleeding for months after the delivery.
The woman alleged that the doctor did not probe to find the root cause of her symptoms, even after she raised her concerns. She claimed the persistent pain hampered her healing and caused her to take legal action.

The consumer commission considered the charges regarding the postoperative care given, and found the doctor and hospital responsible.
This case emphasised the significance of appropriate post-operative care and pursuing diagnosis when symptoms persist after childbirth. Patients should be investigated appropriately when they develop complications after a surgical procedure.
The commission ordered the hospital and doctor to pay Rs 3 lakh to the woman as compensation for the negligence established in the case.
This decision highlights the duty of health care providers in cases of treatment and after care falling short of requirements. It also reiterates that consumer dispute redressal forums are open to patients when medical services are not up to standard.
