Hyderabad: A delivery executive was saved from a rainwater-fed drainage canal along with his two-wheeler by cops and emergency response team in Hyderabad.

The incident was reported on Friday night when the city was witnessing incessant rains and waterlogging in several localities.

The victim in this incident is identified as 46-year-old Ghantasala Arjun Kumar, he didn’t sustain any injuries.

Arjun Kumar was reportedly out for a delivery around 7:30 pm, when he is said to have lost control of his motorcycle and fallen into a drain. Heavy rain had rendered the open drain filled with rainwater a nightmare for the bikers as it had a strong water current and poor visibility.

Based on the inputs received from the local residents, police team and rescue team reached at the spot and started the operation.

In spite of the tough situation, the rescuers were able to extract the delivery executive safely, but his motorcycle was still in the drain as the turbulent water flow had made difficult for the cops to get hold of it right away.

This has brought back to light concerns about the safety hazards from missing manhole covers, poor visibility of roads and overflowing drainage system during heavy rainy days.

There was waterlogging and traffic jam in parts of Hyderabad after heavy rain.

Authorities have urged commuters and pedestrians to avoid heavily inundated roads and areas with strong water currents.
