Hirakud Dam opens 4 more gates, total floodwater discharge gates rise to 16

Sambalpur: As many as four more gates of Hirakud dam were opened for release of flood water on Thursday, taking the total number of opened gates to 16.
As per sources, the dam was previously releasing 12 gates for the same purpose.
With the increased rainfall in upper catchment, the authorities were forced to open four more gates today.
As of latest reports, the water level of Hirakud dam reservoir stands at 614.23 feet.

Presently, the dam received 3.14 lakh cusecs of water per second as inflow and releasing 2,09,920 cusecs of water per second into Mahanadi river through opened gates.
In view of this, the district administrations of the downstream areas have been asked to remain alert.
