New study evaluates medical and surgical treatments for mitral regurgitation

Announcing a new article publication for Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications journal providing fresh evidence on the effectiveness of medical and surgical treatments for mitral regurgitation (MR).

Drawing on 24 randomized controlled trials involving 3,711 patients, researchers found that medical therapy was associated with reductions in MR severity, while transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) and mitral valve surgery (MVS) showed comparable benefits in reducing recurrent MR.

The findings also highlight the potential value of combining appropriate surgical intervention with sustained optimal medical therapy to improve left heart structure and function, offering important insights for the clinical management of patients with MR.
