A couple and their pickup truck vanished in 2005, never found
by Ellsworth Toohey · Boing BoingJust before midnight on Saturday, February 19, 2005, Danielle Imbo and Richard Petrone Jr. left Abilene's bar on South Street in Philadelphia and walked toward Petrone's parked Dodge pickup. Nobody has seen them since — or the truck. It was never recovered either.
Imbo was 34 and had a two-year-old son. Petrone was 35, with a teenage daughter. They were dating, both recently separated from spouses, and by every account, close to their families and unlikely to walk away from their lives. Their cell phones went dark that night and never lit up again. No bank account, no credit card, no trace of either person has surfaced in the two decades since, according to the case file on the disappearance.
The FBI took over in 2008 and has investigated the case as a possible contract killing. It has never named a suspect. "An extensive investigation to date has generated some promising leads," the bureau has said, "however, neither they nor the vehicle have ever been located." In March 2022, a volunteer dive team began searching waterways around Philadelphia for the truck. They came up empty.
