Spike in Hepatitis-A cases prompts door-to-door surveys in Bandipora - Greater Kashmir
by OWAIS FAROOQI · Greater KashmirBandipora, Nov 18: The Health Department in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Monday launched surveys and collected water samples following the Greater Kashmir report about the spike in Hepatitis-A cases among the children.
The doctors informed of the unusual spike for the past month and a half in areas like Mantrigam, Kralpora, Bankoot, Sonarwani, Kaloosa, and Sumlar.
The doctors said “sporadic cases” were also being reported from other areas of the district which was corroborated by the officials.
However, they said that there was no “outbreak”.
On Monday, following the Greater Kashmir report, the district epidemiologist at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office, Dr Nabyeel Ishtiyaq said they would collect water samples from these areas for screening to determine the cause of the unusual spike as flagged by the doctors.
He said that the process began on Monday.
Insiders said that the authorities launched door-to-door surveys in the affected areas and the process continued on Monday and may continue for a few more days.
They said it was a good step toward identifying the causes of these viral and bacterial illnesses and would further help in taking corrective measures.
They said that the departments might need to do so and educate the people about preventive measures.
