Parts of the Greater Toronto Area expecting up to 10 cm of snow this weekend
by Denio Lourenco · CityNewsA barrage of winter weather is expected to make its way to Toronto and parts of the GTA this weekend, with the possibility of up to 10 centimetres of snow.
The conditions are expected to begin Friday evening and continue overnight, before easing up around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to dip a low of -4 C overnight, but will feel closer to -9 C with the windchill.
The City of Toronto has opened five of its warming centres and will activate two additional facilities if temperatures drop below -15 C.
Milder conditions are in the forecast for the rest of the weekend with daytime highs of 1 C on Saturday and -1 C on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Pickering, Oshawa and the Southern Durham Region. The national weather agency says travel along Highway 401 may be hazardous at times.
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” the alert says. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
