Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | NCBA Bank Uganda has handed over 50 household water filters to 50 vulnerable families at Kasenyi Landing Site, primarily supporting families within the fishing community, as part of the Bank’s commitment to promoting healthier and more resilient communities.

The initiative was implemented in partnership with Vision Child Healthcare and Education Initiative, an organization supporting vulnerable communities through healthcare outreach, education, skills development and access to clean water solutions.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Oct.1, Martin Mwanje, Head of Strategy and Sustainability, NCBA Bank Uganda, said the initiative reflects the Bank’s belief that its role extends beyond financial services.

“At NCBA, we believe that banking is about more than financial services. It is about believing in people, supporting their ambitions and being part of the communities in which we operate. This is at the heart of our purpose, Banking on Belief. Empowering Ambitions.”

The 50 water filters will support households at Kasenyi Landing Site that face challenges accessing safe and reliable drinking water. By reducing the need to boil water using firewood or charcoal, the filters can also help households save energy and reduce reliance on cooking fuels, contributing to more sustainable living.

“Change the Story is a commitment to action. Today, we are taking a practical step towards safer water, healthier families and more sustainable communities. We recognise that sustainable impact cannot be achieved by one organisation alone, which is why partnerships with community organisations such as Vision Child Healthcare and Education Initiative are important,” said Mwanje.

On her part the founder of Vision Child Health Care Education Outreach Initiative, Winfred Nannungi, said: “Our goal is to see that we have a healthy community. We do healthy sensitization about communicable diseases, and how we can prevent diseases, and how we can treat those that are treatable. And we support education in the community for vulnerable children. We also support economic empowerment, and skills training. We empower women and the youth, to see that they are healthy and they can earn an income.”
