Person hit by train in Kirkby-in-Ashfield seriously injured as police launch investigation
by Rucsandra Moldoveanu · NottinghamshireLiveAn investigation was launched after a person was found with severe injuries on rail tracks in a Nottinghamshire town. The incident occurred just before midday on Tuesday, November 26, near Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Southwell Lane was closed in both directions, with slow traffic between B6021 Lowmoor Road and Lindrick Road. British Transport Police is now conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
A spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just before midday today (26 November) near Kirkby in Ashfield. Officers and paramedics attended and a person was found with severe injuries and has been taken to a place of safety to receive medical care. The incident is being investigated."
It comes after East Midlands Railway reported that a person had been hit by a train, with services disrupted between Nottingham and Worksop as a result. Normal service then resumed later in the afternoon.
Delays of up to 60 minutes had been in place following the tragic incident. EMR said: "We are sorry for the delay to your journey today.
"We are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you on the move. Please remember that this can take time and be assured that our team are working tirelessly to arrange this as quickly as possible for you.
"We appreciate your patience whilst we do this." A number of cancelled services included the 12.25pm from Worksop to Nottingham, the 1.25pm from Nottingham to Worksop, the 1.39pm from Worksop to Nottingham and the 2.39pm from Worksop to Nottingham.
