No service between Nottingham tram stops as 'crucial' repair works overrun

by · NottinghamshireLive

Trams were out of service between University Boulevard and Cator Lane this morning due to works on overhead lines taking longer than expected to complete. Operator Nottingham Express Transit (NET) confirmed the news with a post on X, formerly Twitter, at 6.07am on Monday (November 18).

It said: "There is No service Between Cator Lane and University Boulevard. This is due to the Overhead works yesterday which have overrun. NET apologise for the inconvenience caused to your journey this morning."

The announcement was despite the NET account saying just eight minutes earlier that all services were operating as usual due to the works being completed. But a frustrated customer commented to confirm that the services were delayed, saying: "Currently sat on 18 bus trying to get into Nottingham. Buses struggling to get through Beeston Town Centre due to over run. Now late for work, 6.21am."

Nottingham City Transport said its Orange line 36 bus had returned to its normal route after the works, running through Beeston as usual. The work, which was meant to start on Sunday, November 17 at 4pm and last until the end of service time on that day, was so that NET could make adjustments to electricity wires within overhead line equipment.

It was after an incident last year which damaged the cables, NET's head of operations Trevor Stocker said. "The work put each of the Central College, Chilwell High Road, Beeston Centre, Middle Street and University Boulevard stops out of use for the period."

A replacement bus service collected passengers from the University Boulevard and Cator Lane stops on Sunday, but from no other locations. Other trams across the network ran as usual.

Trams have now returned to full normal service as of 7.38am, Monday, November 18.
