Super typhoon seen entering PAR

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists are monitoring a super typhoon that is set to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this week.

The super typhoon, with international name Bavi, was located by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday at 2,929 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

It is packing winds of 205 kms per hour and gusts of 250 kph, moving west southwestward at 25 kph.

If it enters PAR, it will be named Inday and will be the second tropical cyclone this month and ninth this year.

PAGASA said Bavi may move close to Northern Luzon and tropical cyclone wind signals may be raised in Northern and possibly Central Luzon.

The state weather bureau added that the public should watch out for the enhanced southwest monsoon which may cause widespread rainfall in a large part of the country this week.

In the meantime, the easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon and Dinagat Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
