MANILA, Philippines — "Verbena," which intensified into a typhoon as it moved away from the country, exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, November 27.

PAGASA said that as of 2:00 p.m., Verben is outside of the PAR and will now be referred to by its international name “Koto”.

Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Kalayaan Islands, which could experience wind speeds of up to 61 kph.

Despite Koto no longer being in the PAR, state meteorologists warned that the cyclone and the northeast monsoon can still create gusty conditions in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

A gale warning is still in effect in the Northern Luzon seaboards and the Southern Luzon western seaboards.

“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
