Up to 3 cyclones expected

MANILA, Philippines — Up to three tropical cyclones are expected to enter or develop inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this month, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the weather disturbances would be given the names Queenie, Rosal and Samuel once they enter or develop inside the PAR.

This is lower than last month’s expected four tropical cyclones, which exceeded five when Pilandok entered the PAR in the last week of the month.

PAGASA explained that fewer tropical cyclones are expected in the upcoming months as the country begins to feel the effects of El Niño.

Fewer rains are expected this month, with rainfall expected to intensify by the last quarter of the year and possibly extend into the first half of 2027.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, PAGASA was not monitoring any low-pressure area that could develop into a tropical cyclone.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains will be felt in Occidental Mindoro, while Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the rest of Mimaropa, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Aklan and Antique will experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in the rest of Luzon, the rest of the Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
