Liam Payne's partner gave Kate Cassidy him an ultimatum before his death—choose her or the drugs.
The couple had been on holiday in Argentina shortly before Liam's passing last month, as he was dealing with visa renewal for America, where he intended to move in with Kate.
His previous drug and rehab history meant Payne's visa had expired, necessitating medical checks and drug testing for a new clearance.
The 31-year-old singer tragically lost his life on October 16, after falling from the balcony of his hotel room on the third floor in Buenos Aires, suffering multiple injuries and leading to "internal and external haemorrhage".
Kate has reportedly revealed details about their relationship, having forced Liam to choose between her and his habits.
It was thought that Liam had overcome his addiction prior to his visa-related drug tests, which he passed, clearing the way for his visa reinstatement. Reports suggest he relapsed into drug use and drinking soon after the tests, reports the Mirror.
A source told the New York Post: "His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love."

The original plan was for a five-day stay in Argentina, but tensions rose when it extended to two weeks, against Kate’s wishes.
Seeking to clarify her discomfort with an extended holiday, she aired her grievances on social media, expressing her distaste for being stationary for too long and her desire to return to their Florida abode. The source elaborated that Kate felt like she was in a "hostage situation" as their getaway dragged on.
"It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami," the source confided.
Not long after the tragic passing of Liam, Kate turned to social media to post a heartfelt homage to her departed beau. The influencer publicly acknowledged her love for Liam, admitting she's completely at sea in processing her grief.
Taking to Instagram, she commented: "Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you'll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam."
Kate and Liam's encounter could have been plucked from a movie script; they first crossed paths when Kate, who was a waitress at the time, served the celebrity in a Charleston bar in South Carolina, back in 2022. For Liam, the spark was instantaneous and he didn't hesitate to request her digits.
However, fate nearly intervened as Kate listed her phone number without the '+1' country code, considering her American contact details. .
These claims surrounding Kate have emerged after an Argentinian waiter, Braian Nahuel Paiz, 24, who claims to have befriended Liam, shared details of their encounters to clear his name. He is alleged to have been the "dealer" who supplied Liam with drugs, but vehemently denies these allegations.
According to Braian, he met Liam on two occasions at a hotel, and asserts that he neither provided drugs nor accepted money from the singer, who was accustomed to offering payment. The pair's initial meeting reportedly took place on October 2 at a different hotel where Liam was staying prior to moving to the upscale CasaSur Palermo.
Braian further claims that he spent a night with Liam at the CasaSur Palermo during another encounter on October 13.
In an interview with Argentinian journalist Guillermo Panizza, Braian stated: "I never supplied Liam with drugs. Liam's first contact with me was at my place of work. We swapped details and saw each other later that night. It was all normal. He came down from his hotel room to fetch me because I had got lost."
Identifying the hotel as the "Hyatt in Palermo", he continued: "We got together there and he showed me some of the music he was going to bring out. I've heard people saying he was taking drugs but the truth is that when he got to the restaurant where I was working he was already under the effects of drugs and he didn't actually eat anything.
"There was a moment when he approached me and asked me for my contact details. I gave him an Instagram and afterwards he sent me messages because he wanted to take drugs although he had already consumed narcotics. It was October 2. While I was in his room we had some whisky shots."
He went on to claim: "Our second hotel meeting was on the night of Sunday October 13. We spent the night together, we consumed drugs because the truth is that something intimate happened. I stayed there all night. I consumed marijuana and he consumed cocaine, the cocaine that's in all the photos that came out after his death. He was separating it and cleaning it before smoking it. I didn't say anything to him about it because he seemed normal to me."

Liam was reported to be "really sweet" during an encounter where he made sure Braian was "ok". Braian noted that he still has the messages from Payne and hasn't erased any of them.
Additionally, Payne gave him a T-shirt and grey jogging bottoms to remember their time together, but Braian left these items in Liam's room. Braian also mentioned that Liam visited his home to meet a friend who was an avid One Direction fan.
However, despite Liam's insistence that they go back to his hotel room, Braian declined the offer as he had work commitments.
