A Brit living in Florida has revealed what it's like to prepare for the extreme weather like Hurricane Milton.

People living in the Sunshine State have been told to "get out now" as the hurricane wreaks havoc. Boasting 120mph winds, the Category 3 storm made its way to the state's West Coast this week after days of building in the Gulf of Mexico. It comes just two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation in parts of the country.

Despite the warnings, however, some residents have chosen to stay in their homes, and have taken to TikTok and other social media platforms to show the damage, along with how their survival in the eye of Hurricane Milton is going. One Brit named Daisy shared her experience.

The new resident moved to Orlando last month with her partner and was excited for the sunshine, food and drink options, Walt Disney parks, and more the popular area has to offer. But, she never expected to be faced with such extreme weather and is now on "tornado watch".

Daisy said: "I'm sure everyone's heard, we are currently preparing for Hurricane Milton." She noted she is not in an evacuation area but wants to be as prepared as possible. "We're not in a mandatory evacuation zone so we are going to buckle down and stay safe," she explained.

She wanted to "make a head start" on preparing her home, which is based in the Kissimmee area. She said that walking out onto the front of her residential street it is like "a literal ghost town".

On Wednesday [October 9], the resident visited three petrol stations before managing to get a full tank. While her husband Tom was at work, Daisy brought all of their garden furniture inside. She said: "All the neighbours had started boarding up their windows."

She pointed out they have a large grill in their garden, "so if we loose power we can always grill on that". She added: "Then I started to prepare some tea, and it was that this point that I felt it was the literal calm before the storm."

Daisy also explained: "One of the things that we have been advised to do is running a bath just in case the pipes are contaminated and we need to flush the toilet or anything like that."

The resident, who also has pet cats, ensured to charge up all of her devices, in case of a power cut. The prepared woman also filled up a number of sandwich bags with ice and placed them in the freezer goes out. She also stocked up on water bottles, and put fresh batteries in her torch. Plus, the couple stocked up on cupboard food staples.

People rushed to comment on the video, as one said: "So scary! We flew back home to the UK yesterday, feel very lucky."

Another wrote: "The Chocolate Digestives made me smile. Stay safe. Hope you're ok." One other shared their support, and commented: "You are incredibly brave, as a Brit I literally can't comprehend what's happening there at the moment. Be safe."
