India poised to emerge as global technology leader under PM: Sinha

Jammu Tawi, Jul 31: Emphasising that the future belongs to those who recognise possibilities rather than boundaries, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said the modern world demands multidisciplinary thinkers capable of integrating knowledge across diverse fields.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a series of academic programmes at Cluster University Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said the new initiatives would redefine higher education in the region.

Describing the ‘Design Your Degree’ programme as a revolutionary step towards student-centric learning, Sinha said it would empower students to shape their academic journeys by choosing subjects according to their interests, talents and aspirations.

“The frontiers of knowledge are constantly expanding. Problems today are multidimensional, and their solutions require multidisciplinary approaches. The 21st century will belong to young people who are not confined to a single discipline but possess the ability to integrate knowledge from multiple fields and develop innovative solutions,” he said.

The University also launched integrated programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Geography.

Highlighting the importance of interconnected learning, the Lieutenant Governor said the study of climate change, for instance, requires inputs from environmental science, chemistry, physics, mathematics and geography. Such cross-disciplinary education, he said, would produce holistic researchers capable of addressing complex challenges and generating new ideas.

Cluster University also introduced a one-year PG Diploma in Sanatan Dharma and Indian Knowledge Systems and established a Department of Vedic Studies.

Sinha said true education must balance science with values and stressed that India’s intellectual heritage—from Panini’s grammar and Aryabhata’s astronomy to Ayurveda and linguistics—represents a rich legacy of scientific thought and systematic knowledge.

He said the new academic programme would enable students to understand India’s civilisational wisdom while pursuing modern education.

The Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated the Semiconductor Skilling Programme in collaboration with IIT Madras, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening India’s technological capabilities.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is committed to becoming a global leader in technology development and manufacturing. This programme will equip students with cutting-edge skills required by future industries,” he said.

Calling upon students to focus on innovation and skill development, Sinha expressed confidence that the new initiatives would enrich academic learning while contributing to Jammu and Kashmir’s progress.
