Mendhar Clinic Sealed Over Alleged Irregularities; Probe Demanded by Locals

Mendhar, June 17: The health authorities in Mendhar, along with local administration and police, on Tuesday sealed a private medical facility, Apex Health Care Clinic, located opposite Dak Bungalow in Mendhar town of Poonch district, following alleged irregularities and violations, officials said.

The action was carried out jointly by Block Medical Officer (BMO) Mendhar Dr. Gazala, SHO Mendhar, a police team and the Naib Tehsildar during an inspection of the clinic.

Officials said the inspection revealed that no qualified eye specialist was present at the facility at the time of the visit. They added that a BUMS practitioner was found operating the clinic, following which it was sealed as per rules, pending further investigation.

The BMO said action was initiated in accordance with applicable regulations after the irregularities were observed during the inspection.

The move has drawn strong reactions from local residents, who welcomed the sealing of the clinic but demanded a thorough and independent inquiry into its functioning. Residents alleged that people were misled and financially exploited under the pretext of specialised medical treatment.

Locals also urged the Health Department and district administration to examine the clinic’s records, permissions and medical practices to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Officials said further inquiry is underway and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. (KNC)
