The Greatest Gift: Organ Donation

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has highlighted one of the most significant issues of the present day world having a potential of transforming lives of hundreds of people looking for organ donors. The LG has praised all the organ donors while attending an event ‘Naman Diwas’ dedicated to honour organ donors and their families. He has rightly termed the organ donors as real heroes of the society because no other gift than donation of an organ is as priceless therefore organ donors deserve the highest degree of honour.

It is really encouraging that today science has excelled so much that there is a possibility of transplantation of many organs in the human body and therefore the need of the hour is to convince more and more people to go for organ transplant to change the lives of people seeking organs to lead a normal life.

A comprehensive strategy should be chalked out to plug in the gap between organ donors and those in dire need of the organs for adding years in their lives especially in case of kidney transplant, which has become feasible and has shown good results in giving life to people confronting renal failures. Many medical professionals have been advising for mandatory organ donation after death to overcome the dearth of organs for those who require the same to sustain life but the idea needs a lot of efforts before people could be convinced especially when the society as a whole is of oriental thought and slow in accepting such changes.

The LG has rightly asserted that organ donation is one of the noblest and most sacred acts and therefore people should pay attention to the appeal issued by the LG to take the pledge for organ donation.

The people understand that every single individual is a potential donor and holds the extraordinary power to save lives therefore organ donation possesses much significance. The LG has commended the work of State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization of J&K (SOTTO J&K) and said the team has worked with deep commitment to raise awareness across communities.

The doctor fraternity could play a vital role in changing the narrative and encouraging the population to ponder over this important aspect to add years to lives of people facing organ failure as today the science has become so advanced that a single person ready to donate his or her organs can simultaneously save several lives as the donated organs can be used to treat different people at one go.

There are many instances in the recent past in the country wherein a single brain dead person has saved several lives by way of organ donation. voluntary organ donation is something which can bring revolution in the field of medical science and therefore all the entities should play their significant role in promoting organ donation along with asking the concerned authorities to develop facilities for ensuring successful organ transplants.
